Metal Sculptor Frank Morbillo Featured in Artist
Dialogue at Preston Contemporary Art Center Saturday, March 7 @
1pm.
Metal sculptor Frank Morbillo will be featured in an Artist Dialogue
presentation at the Preston Contemporary Art Center on Saturday,
March 7 at 1pm. There is no admission charge for this latest in
a series in which artists talk about their art and hold conversations
with their audience. Preston Contemporary Art is located at 1755
Avenida de Mercado (at the end of Calle de Mercado) in Mesilla,
NM 88046. Call 575-523-8713 or visit www.prestoncontemporaryart.com.
Morbillo of Tesuque, NM, has a mastery of his materials, which
is apparent in his steel or stainless steel, bronze and glass work,
where he often combines patinaed fabricated steel with cast bronze
in an original process. The resulting parabolas of smooth, earth-toned,
steel surfaces juxtaposed against reticulated cast bronze in a
contrasting green patina are unique to his work. Molten bronze
poured into spaces between the steel elements hardens, cracks and
sinks into naturalistic patterns, simulating the larger natural
forces of erosion and gravity found in a natural environment.
In addition to discussing his works on display in the sculpture
gallery at the Preston Art Center, Morbillo’s presentation
will include information and visuals about the making of "Partners," a
22' stainless steel fountain commissioned work he completed last
summer, explaining the studio fabrication, water testing, transportation
and final installation of the piece.
